Dr. Rehab Osman is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Oxford Brookes Business School, serving as Subject Coordinator for Economics Programmes and PAL Coordinator. Her roles involve curriculum development, staff recruitment, and student support across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. She teaches Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and modules like History of Economic Thought and Economics and Society in Context. Beyond Oxford Brookes, she is a Visiting Research Associate at the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute and an International Advisor for the World Food Programme (WFP), collaborating with institutions like Hohenheim University and Egypt’s CAPMAS.
She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex. Her research focuses on natural resources, ecological economics, climate change, agriculture, and trade policies, with technical expertise in CGE models using GAMS. The unifying theme of her work is sustainable management of natural resources, addressing low carbon emissions, water usage, and environmental development through quantitative frameworks. Notable research includes assessing economic impacts of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, EU-SADC trade agreements, and water quality improvements in Egypt.
Her articles analyze global trade vulnerabilities, Nile Basin economics, and water management strategies using CGE models. This work bridges macroeconomic policy with environmental and agricultural challenges, often with implications for African economies. Publications frequently integrate SAM frameworks and satellite accounts to quantify sustainability outcomes.
Rehab was nominated for three prestigious teaching awards in 2019: Best Taught Module, Most Inspirational Lecturer, and Best Academic Adviser. She has also contributed to international training initiatives, such as a World Bank-sponsored course on global CGE modeling in Dakar and a WFP-funded project in Egypt.
As Principal Investigator, she secured a Joint International Research Partnership Grant for a SAM/CGE project on water quality assessment in Egypt. Her advisory work includes guiding PhD research in Development Economics, Agricultural Economics, and Climate Change. Collaborations span institutions like UNU-CRIS, GTAP, and the European Commission, emphasizing policy-driven research with real-world applications.
Rehab is affiliated with key organizations including the Higher Education Academy (HEA), African Growth and Development Policy Modeling Consortium (AGRODEP), and Agricultural Economics Society (AES).
