Dr. Regis Y Simo is a Lecturer (Research & Education) at Queen's University Belfast's School of Law, specializing in International/World Trade Law. He serves as a UK Trade and Sustainable Development Domestic Advisory Group (UK TSD DAG) Member Representative and is a South African National Research Foundation (NRF) C-rated Scholar (2023). He holds a PhD in International Law and Economics from Bocconi University and has held academic positions at institutions like the University of Witwatersrand and Bocconi University. His research focuses on international economic law, African Union law, and sustainable development in trade agreements.
Dr. Simo's work addresses challenges faced by the Global South in multilateral trade frameworks, including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and post-pandemic economic recovery strategies. His research outputs span topics like sustainability obligations in trade agreements, regional integration, and legal frameworks affecting developing nations. He has contributed to over 24 peer-reviewed publications and serves on editorial boards for journals such as the German Law Journal and African Journal of International Economic Law.
His academic activities include teaching modules like International Trade Law and World Trade Law, as well as editorial and advisory roles. He is the current President of the African International Economic Law Network (AfIELN). Awards include the 2019 Literati Award for Outstanding Paper. Dr. Simo also advises African governments on trade agreements through donor-funded projects and contributes to global debates on trade, law, and development.
