Regina Loehr is a Lecturer in Classics at Washington University in St. Louis (email: loehrr@wustl.edu). She holds a Ph.D. in Classics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research focuses on emotion’s role in ancient historiography, particularly in Polybius' Histories, analyzing how emotions shaped moral judgments and political transitions in Greco-Roman contexts. She critiques assumptions about emotions as irrational, arguing they were central to historical causality and narrative coherence.
Her 2024 book Emotion and Historiography in Polybius’ Histories employs interdisciplinary frameworks from modern psychology and political science to reinterpret Polybian analysis. Prior to Washington University, she taught at Cornell College, Grinnell College, Furman University, and UCSB. She served as a Research Associate at UC Irvine (2018–2022), digitizing 1,200 Greek texts for the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae®. Currently, she develops pedagogical materials using Byzantine saints’ lives to bridge introductory and advanced Greek language instruction.
Her work integrates classical texts with contemporary theoretical approaches, emphasizing the enduring relevance of ancient historiographical methods.
