Regina Day Langhout

Regina Day Langhout is a Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her research focuses on empowerment in educational and neighborhood settings using participatory action research (PAR), examining how race, ethnicity, social class, and gender influence experiences and resistance to negative stereotypes. She explores conditions necessary for ideological shifts toward social justice and systemic change.

Her primary work involves collaborations in elementary schools serving working-class African American, Latinx, and white students, using methods like playground observations, focus groups, and community art projects to create inclusive environments.

Langhout teaches courses including Community Psychology, Community-Based Interventions, Social-Community Psychology in Practice, and graduate-level Quantitative Data Analysis and Participatory Action Research.
