Reggie A. Byron is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at the University of Denver, as well as Director of the Center for Race & Ethnic Studies (CRES). He holds a PhD in Sociology from The Ohio State University (2009), alongside MA degrees in Sociology (OSU, 2005) and Psychology (SUNY Buffalo, 2003), and a BA in Psychology from SUNY Geneseo (2000). Before joining DU, he served as a Sociology professor at Southwestern University for 13 years.
His research focuses on racial inequality in organizational contexts, particularly examining how bureaucratic structures perpetuate racial hierarchies through 'colorblind' policies and discriminatory practices. He has published extensively on topics such as workplace discrimination, organizational legitimation of inequality, and the intersection of race and organizational behavior.
Key grants include funding from the American Sociological Association’s Fund for the Advancement of the Discipline and Southwestern University’s Faculty-Student Projects. His work frequently involves collaborative research with undergraduate students.
Byron’s scholarship bridges sociology, critical race theory, and organizational studies, emphasizing the racialized nature of institutional practices. He is affiliated with interdisciplinary initiatives at DU, including the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences.
