Reetesh Ranjan

Dr. Reetesh Ranjan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), affiliated with the College of Engineering and Computer Science. He holds a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (2004), M.S. and Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2009, 2012). Before UTC, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow and Senior Research Engineer at Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Aerospace Engineering (2013–2019) and as a Lead Application Engineer at Ansys India (2004–2007).

His research focuses on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Turbulence Modeling, Combustion, and Machine Learning. Specific interests include Large Eddy Simulation (LES), reduced-order modeling, turbulence-chemistry interaction, and uncertainty quantification. He has contributed to advancing subgrid-scale models and hybrid simulation techniques for high Reynolds number flows and complex reacting systems.

Dr. Ranjan has received prestigious awards including the Fred B. Seely Fellowship, Louis J. Larson Fellowship, Hassan Aref Memorial Award, and the Stanley I. Weiss Outstanding Thesis Award. His teaching spans Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Heat Transfer, with courses like ENME 3070 (Fluid Mechanics) and ENME 5350 (Viscous Flow Theory).
