Redona Brahimetaj

Redona Brahimetaj serves as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Electronics and Informatics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. Her work bridges biomedical engineering and computer science to advance clinical diagnostics and motion analysis technologies.

Her research program centers on medical imaging for breast cancer detection, particularly through microcalcification analysis in 3D micro-CT images, and clinical motion capture systems using augmented reality devices like HoloLens 2 and sensor technologies. She focuses on practical, low-cost solutions for healthcare challenges including early cancer screening and gait rehabilitation.

Recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate her leadership in validating mobile 3D imaging for breast reconstruction, developing real-time motion capture applications (HoloMoCap), and optimizing skeletal tracking systems. Her work consistently addresses technical challenges like infrared interference and sensor accuracy across diverse populations.

She actively contributes to major research initiatives including the ongoing GEAR project (2021-2025) on future health technologies and the completed FWOSB65 project (2019-2022) on tumor classification.
