Recivall Salongcay

Recivall Salongcay is a Visiting Scholar at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, within the Centre for Public Health. His research focuses on Diabetic Eye Disease, Retinal Imaging, Teleophthalmology, and Public Health Ophthalmology. He holds a BSc and MD from the University of the Philippines Manila and a Master's in Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines. Prior to ophthalmology, he worked as a Rural Health Physician for the Philippine Department of Health.

His current work centers on the UK-Philippines REACH-DR Project, funded by the UK MRC and Philippine PCHRD, aiming to establish a national diabetic eye screening framework in the Philippines. His research integrates artificial intelligence, handheld imaging, and machine learning to improve diabetic retinopathy screening and care delivery. Key contributions include studies on anti-VEGF treatment outcomes, ultrawidefield imaging, and AI-driven grading accuracy in screening programs.

He has received awards including the ARVO DCERF Fellowship (2021), ARVO Science Communication Fellowship (2023), and recognition as an IAPB Eye Health Future Leader (2021). His work aligns with UN SDG goals related to health equity and sustainable development.
