Rebecca Wattam

Rebecca Wattam is a Research Associate Professor at the Biocomplexity Institute of the University of Virginia. Her work focuses on infectious diseases, bacterial pathogens, and comparative genomics, with a strong emphasis on bioinformatics and pathogen genomics. She earned her joint Ph.D. in veterinary science and entomology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992.

Dr. Wattam is funded by NIAID through the Bacterial and Viral Bioinformatics Research Center, participates in the Pathogens Genomic Centers of Excellence with CDC, and contributes to DARPA’s iSENTRY project. Her research involves computational biology and biocomplexity, particularly in understanding microbial pathogens.
