Rebecca Wanzo is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Washington University. She holds courtesy affiliations in African and African-American Studies, American Culture Studies, English, and Film and Media Studies.

Her research focuses on African American literature, critical race theory, feminist theory, and graphic storytelling. She explores how cultural forms like caricature and media narratives shape political belonging and institutional recognition. Notable works include The Suffering Will Not Be Televised (2009) and The Content of Our Caricature (2020), the latter of which earned multiple prestigious awards. Her scholarship bridges academic journals (American Literature, Camera Obscura) and public outlets (CNN, Huffington Post). She is also a contributor to the graphic novel Bitch Planet.
