Professor Rebecca Walwyn is a Professor of Clinical Trials Methodology and NIHR Advanced Fellow (2022-2028) at the University of Leeds. She serves as Director of the Methodological Research, Education and Innovation (M-REI) Division within the Leeds Institute of Clinical Trials Research (LICTR), part of the School of Medicine. She joined Leeds in 2011 after previous roles at King's College London and the MRC Clinical Trials Unit.
Education:
- BSc Psychology (University of Kent, 1996-1999)
- MSc Social Statistics (University of Southampton, 1999-2001)
- PhD Biostatistics (University of Manchester, 2006-2010)
Research Interests: Her work focuses on advancing statistical methodologies for complex intervention trials, including therapist effects, novel experimental designs (e.g., split-plot, open-cohort cluster-randomized trials), and optimization frameworks. She applies these to psychological interventions, mental health, and audit/feedback systems, with emphasis on maximizing trial efficiency and real-world applicability.

Grants & Supervision: She leads major projects like Opioid-SMART and statistical methods for complex interventions (NIHR). She has supervised five PhD students in trials methodology and mobile health interventions. She co-leads CPD courses on the Multiphase Optimisation Strategy (MOST).
