Rebecca Tollan is Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware, where she directs the Experimental Syntax Lab. Her research investigates how human languages are structured and how these structures are processed by speakers.
Research examines subjecthood, thematic relations, case, agreement, and long-distance dependencies across languages including English, Korean, Mandarin, Niuean, and Japanese. Combines formal linguistic theory with experimental methods like eye-tracking and grammaticality judgments.
Leads research on syntactic ergativity, dependency formation, and the relationship between syntax and information structure. Current projects explore extraction constraints and pronoun resolution mechanisms.
