Rebecca Swanson is a University Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the Colorado School of Mines. Her research focuses on the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning and Combinatorics, with a strong emphasis on improving undergraduate mathematics education and promoting gender equity in STEM fields.
Education: PhD and MA from Indiana University, BA from Dakota Wesleyan University.
Her work emphasizes innovative pedagogical approaches such as flipped classrooms and team-based learning. She actively supports women in mathematics through her role as co-advisor for the Society for Women in Mathematics and has received numerous awards for teaching and service, including the Board of Trustees Outstanding Faculty Award (2017) and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award (2015).
Recent courses include Linear Algebra (MATH332), Calculus II (MATH112), Calculus III (MATH213), and Foundations of Advanced Mathematics (MATH300). Her publications highlight curriculum redesign, gender equity initiatives, and pedagogical innovations in STEM education.
Service activities include co-advising the Putnam Team, organizing professional development programs for early-career mathematicians, and serving on advisory councils for international mathematics education programs.
