معرفی
Rebecca Suter is a Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Faculty of Asian Studies. Her research focuses on modern Japanese literature, comparative literature, and Asian cultural studies, with an emphasis on cross-cultural negotiations and representations. She holds a Ph.D. from Università degli Studi di Napoli 'l'Orientale' and has taught at Harvard University, Brown University, and the University of Sydney. Her work challenges conventional views of globalization by analyzing Japan's engagement with Euro-American cultures and its portrayal of non-Western regions.
Key research areas include the 'Near West' concept in Japanese perceptions of Scandinavia and the Mediterranean, and the role of cultural stereotypes in shaping identity. She has authored monographs such as *The Japanization of Modernity* (2008), *Holy Ghosts* (2015), and *Two-World Literature* (2020), and co-edited volumes on manga and women's cultural production. Current projects explore Japanese views of immigration and cultural appropriation in transnational contexts.
Teaching includes courses on modern Japanese literature, national identity, and comparative studies. Her recent publications (2022-2024) address topics ranging from manga gender representation to historical beverage consumption patterns in Japan.
