University of Edinburghمعرفی
Rebecca Reynolds is a Professor of Metabolic Medicine and Dean International at the University of Edinburgh's College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, leading the Centre for Cardiovascular Science and Edinburgh Pregnancy Research Team. Her work bridges experimental and population health research to investigate how early-life development influences lifelong disease trajectories.
Her research program integrates three core methodologies:
- Leveraging Scotland's national healthcare data-linkage systems and cohort studies to document intergenerational consequences of maternal health conditions
- Conducting mechanistic experimental medicine studies within clinical settings using placental tissue analysis and maternal-fetal physiological assessments
- Designing randomized controlled trials to test pregnancy interventions for improving maternal and offspring outcomes
Major active grants include the Wellcome Leap In Utero Programme (£1.25M as PI), MRC Partnership Grant (£1.4M as Co-I), and NIHR Global Health Research Group (£3M as Co-I). She supervises six doctoral researchers across metabolic medicine, maternal-fetal physiology, and data science.
Her research group comprises clinical research fellows (Emma Johns, David Stoye, Claire Wilson), specialized laboratory staff including Tommy's Biobank Technician Jayne Brady, and seven research midwives led by Senior Research Midwife Shona Low. The team operates within Edinburgh Bioquarter's integrated clinical-academic environment utilizing Mass Spectrometry Core Facility and Biomarker Lab resources.
