Dr. Rebecca Pinkus is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney. She previously held positions at Western Sydney University and conducted postdoctoral research at UNSW and the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her education includes a PhD and Master of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from Western University in Canada.
Her research focuses on emotion regulation, social comparisons in relationships, and body image. Key areas include understanding how individuals regulate their partners' emotions and the impact of social media on self-perception. She has explored topics such as condom use during the pandemic, stigma around abortion, and the psychological effects of weight stigma.
Pinkus has secured grants including 'Abortion stigma in Australia' (2024) and 'When, why, and how well do we regulate other peoples emotions' (2021). Her work bridges clinical, social, and health psychology, with contributions to journals like Emotion and Personality and Individual Differences.
