Rebecca Penzias

Dr. Rebecca Penzias is a Postdoctoral Epidemiologist and Health Systems Researcher at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), affiliated with the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health and the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and International Health. She is a key member of the multinational NEST360 alliance, which focuses on improving hospital care for small and sick newborns in Ethiopia, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

Research Interests: Her work centers on advancing measurement frameworks for implementation programs in low-resource settings, with a focus on neonatal health, maternal and child health, service readiness, equity, and quality improvement. Her research has practical implications for governments and policy makers, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Publication Trends: Dr. Penzias’s recent articles (2023–2025) emphasize NEST360’s impact on neonatal care through health facility assessments, data operationalization, and implementation science. Earlier works (2019–2020) explore childhood asthma interventions and healthcare quality metrics in the United States.

Teaching: She tutors modules in the MSc Reproductive and Sexual Health Research program, including Statistics for Epidemiology and Population Health (STEPH), Health Data Management (HDM), and distance learning module EPM102. She also supervises MSc summer projects.
