Rebecca Nowland

Dr. Rebecca Nowland is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, affiliated with the Maternal and Infant Nutrition and Nurture Unit. Her research focuses on Child and Adolescent Mental Health, with particular emphasis on the interplay between peer relationships, loneliness, and physical/mental health outcomes. She holds a chartered Psychologist qualification for Teaching and Research.

Her work spans perinatal mental health, social determinants of health, and the psychological impacts of parenting experiences. Recent studies include investigations into perinatal loneliness, maternal mental health during the pandemic, and the role of social media in parenting.

Key areas of expertise include: loneliness as a social determinant of health, interventions for maternal mental health, and qualitative methodologies in healthcare research. Her recent publications analyze postnatal support services, parenting during crises, and the psychosocial needs of parents in neonatal care settings.

Dr. Nowland collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and community organizations to advance evidence-based practices in maternal and child health. Current projects include scoping reviews on parental leave policies and the role of relational care in healthcare systems.
