Rebecca McCarthy is a Lecturer in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. She holds a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders (2008), where she completed clinical training at Boston Children’s Hospital, Perkins School for the Blind, Barry Price Rehabilitation Center, and Emerson College clinics, and a Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Management from Providence College (2005).
Her research centers on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Assistive Technology, and clinical frameworks in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She examines technological innovations, societal perceptions of AAC, and evidence-based therapeutic practices.
McCarthy’s publications emphasize clinical ethics, AAC technology evolution, and inclusive communication strategies. Her 2018 article discusses diagnostic challenges in speech pathology, while her book chapter analyzes societal impacts of assistive technology.
