Rebecca Lonergan serves as Professor of Lawyering Skills and Associate Director of the Legal Writing and Advocacy Program at the USC Gould School of Law, where she has taught since joining in 2007 after 16 years as a federal prosecutor with the United States Attorney's Office (USAO).
Her educational background includes:
- Undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara with highest honors
- JD from UC Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law (1987)
Lonergan's expertise spans National Security Law, Legal Writing pedagogy, and complex criminal litigation including public corruption, corporate fraud, government fraud, health care fraud, real estate fraud, and espionage-related offenses. She teaches Legal Writing and National Security Law while advising the Hale Moot Court Honors Program and National Moot Court Team.
Her professional trajectory includes service as a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles, trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice Environmental Crimes Section, and Assistant U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles since 1991. She has served as a pro tem judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court since 2001, bringing extensive courtroom experience to her academic role.
