Rebecca Gilmour is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Archaeology at Mount Royal University (Calgary, Alberta). She holds a BA from Simon Fraser University (2008), an MSc from Durham University, and a PhD from McMaster University. Her research focuses on bioarchaeological investigations combining biomechanics and paleopathology to study health/function relationships in human skeletons.
- Education: BA SFU (2008) → MSc Durham → PhD McMaster
Her work examines skeletal trauma responses across the Roman world using limb bone geometries, with particular interest in fragmentary remains and osteological pedagogy. Current research emphasizes human variation through time, exploring how past populations adapted to injury/disability. This includes studying functional implications of skeletal pathologies to better understand risk, resilience, and lived experiences in antiquity.
