Rebecca Geoffroy-Schwinden is an Associate Professor of Music History at the University of North Texas. Her work focuses on 18th-century music cultures, particularly the French Revolution and musical labor under modern democracy and capitalism. She holds a Ph.D. in Musicology (2015) and has been recognized with the 2023 Lewis Lockwood Award for her book From Servant to Savant (Oxford UP, 2022). Her research integrates feminist musicology and historical sound studies, examining music’s role as property and its global circulation through trade routes and diasporas.
Awards include NEH grants for projects on women’s lives along East-West Indies trade routes and musical diasporas from the French and Haitian Revolutions. Her work is archival, emphasizing modern professional musicianship and the intersection of music with socio-political systems.
