Dr Rebecca Dewey is a Senior Research Fellow at the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre, University of Nottingham, where she conducts interdisciplinary research in auditory neuroscience and brain imaging. She is also an active member of the Institute of Physics (IOP), currently serving as a General Trustee on the IOP Council (2024–2028), and previously chaired the IOP East Midlands Branch Committee from 2019 to 2023.
Her research focuses on using functional MRI to visualize the auditory nerve and investigate the effects of noise exposure on the human hearing system. She collaborates with clinical researchers, hospitals, and medical device manufacturers to improve MRI protocols for patients with auditory prostheses such as cochlear implants.
Dr Dewey is a passionate advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in physics. She has led initiatives to improve accessibility of the 'I am a physicist' Girlguiding badge, including creating a Welsh translation and promoting access for British Sign Language users. She also volunteers with The Gettaway Club, a Nottingham-based charity for adults with learning disabilities.
