Rebecca Choi is an Assistant Professor of Architectural History at Tulane University, focusing on the intersection of race, social movements, and urban spaces in 20th-century America. Her research explores how Black-led movements reshaped architectural practices and urban policies. She holds a Ph.D. in Architectural History and an M.URP from UCLA.

Research Interests:
Dr. Choi’s work examines the racialization of architecture and urban spaces, particularly through the lens of anti-racist protests, Black Power movements, and Black spatial agency. Her book project Black Architectures: Race, Pedagogy and Practice highlights marginalized Black architectural voices. A second project, Swamp Life, investigates Black women’s reclaiming of swamplands as sites of survival.
Teaching and Grants:
She teaches courses on diasporic architecture, spatial justice, and Afrofuturism. Her collaborative book Architecture of the African Diaspora in/of the United States is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes cross-cultural content and equitable pedagogy.
Labs/Teams:
Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects funded by NEH and through academic partnerships with institutions like ETH Zürich.
