Rebecca Charlton is Professor and co-Head of the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London. She leads the GoldAge Lab focusing on cognitive, emotional, and social changes across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on later-life development and neurodiversity. Her research examines cognitive ageing trajectories, late-life depression, and ageing experiences in autistic adults.
Charlton's work investigates neurobiological underpinnings of cognitive changes using neuroimaging techniques including diffusion tensor imaging. Current projects explore cardiovascular risk factors in neurodiverse ageing, menopausal experiences of autistic women, and memory function across the lifespan. She collaborates with clinical services to develop interventions supporting older autistic adults and dementia patients.
Her research has received funding from Dunhill Medical Trust, Autistica, and NIHR. Charlton serves on advisory boards for neurodiversity charities and contributes to public discourse on ageing in autism through media engagements including BBC Radio London.
