Dr. Rebecca C. Adikes is an Assistant Professor at Siena University (formerly Siena College), where she joined in Fall 2021 as a Leading Edge New Faculty Fellow conducting research on cytoskeletal dynamics and cell migration.
Dr. Adikes' educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- B.A. in Biochemistry, Mount Holyoke College
Her research focuses on understanding cytoskeletal regulation from atomic to organismal levels, specifically how actin cytoskeleton governs cell migration and adhesion in vivo using C. elegans. The lab investigates cellular rearrangement of structural components like actin in response to environmental signals to enable navigation through complex 3D spaces.
Dr. Adikes has received:
- Fulbright Research Fellow (2011-2012)
- Leading Edge New Faculty Fellow
Mentoring undergraduate researchers through CURCA-funded projects, her lab has executed diverse studies including:
- Nuclear Hormone Receptors in planaria
- Actin binding proteins in myoblast development
- Septins in C. elegans
- ROS during planaria regeneration
- Cytoskeletal organization in cell migration/differentiation
Established in 2021, the Adikes Lab operates as a dynamic undergraduate research team with active collaborations at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Marine Biological Laboratory.
