Rebecca Bährle

Rebecca Bährle is a researcher at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, affiliated with the Geomicrobiology department under the Marine Geosystems research unit. Her work focuses on functional metagenomics of unculturable microorganisms, particularly carbon monoxide dehydrogenases (CODH) for electrochemical CO2 reduction and biogeochemical applications in marine environments.

Her educational background includes a Master's in Marine Biology from the University of Rostock, a Master's thesis on sponge microbiomes and bioactive gene clusters at Wageningen University, and a Bachelor's in Biology from the University of Kassel. She has also served as a student assistant in zoology and participated in fieldwork for marine sediment sampling and North Sea crab fishing research.
