Alexandra Tecza-Wiezel is a Doctoral researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, working within Research Division 2: Marine Biogeochemistry in the Marine Geosystems field. Her research focuses on microbe-mineral interactions, particularly the role of microbes in Seafloor Massive Sulfide (SMS) formation and transformation.
Her research interests span geomicrobiology, marine biogeochemistry, and microbial surface structures. Through the DOME Priority Programme, she investigates how microbial activity influences metal preservation in deep-sea environments using long-term in-situ incubation experiments. Her work bridges microbiology and geology to understand fundamental processes in marine mineral formation.
Alexandra is actively engaged in the scientific community, presenting her research at international conferences including VAAM, BGR, D-A-CH-Geobiology, DOME, and EGU events. She is a member of both the VAAM (since 2024) and EGU (since 2025), reflecting her interdisciplinary expertise.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Free University of Berlin (2017-2020), a Master's in Quantitative Molecular Biology from Humboldt-University of Berlin (2017-2019), and thesis work at the German Rheumatism Research Center Berlin on microbial surface structures.
