Rebecca Bliege Bird is Professor of Anthropology at Penn State University. With a Ph.D. from UC Davis, she leads research on socioecological systems through the HENDy Lab.
Her work examines subsistence strategies in small-scale societies, investigating how social contexts influence economic decisions and ecological impacts. Key research areas include gender roles in hunting/gathering, cooperative signaling, and indigenous fire management practices.
Fieldwork focuses on human-environment interactions in challenging landscapes, analyzing how local decision-making shapes ecological communities.
