Rebecca B. Galemba is a Professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver. She serves as Co-Director of the DU Center for Immigration Policy and Research and is affiliated with IRISE and CCESL. Her research focuses on migration, border studies, wage theft, and immigrant labor rights, with extensive fieldwork in Mexico, Guatemala, and Colorado. She leads the DU Just Wages Project, involving over 100 students in studying wage theft among immigrant day laborers. Her work bridges academia and community advocacy, earning awards from the AAA and SEA.
Her teaching includes courses on migration, qualitative methods, and illicit markets. Key roles include Board membership at Centro de los Trabajadores Colorado and collaboration with organizations like El Centro Humanitario and the Colorado Wage Theft Task Force. She has authored books like Contraband Corridor (2018) and Laboring for Justice (2023), emphasizing engaged anthropology.
Recent research explores transit migration, climate-induced displacement, and the intersection of immigration policy and labor rights. Her TEDx talk on wage theft highlights societal impacts of labor exploitation, underscoring her commitment to policy-informed scholarship.
