Rebecca Alt is an Associate Professor of Communication at Lenoir-Rhyne University since 2019. She serves as the Director of the Speech Preparation Lab and focuses on communication theory and practice, teaching courses in sports communication, media, rhetoric, social change, research methods, convergent media writing, and speech.

Her research examines the role of communication in maintaining or challenging the culture of high-profile college and Olympic sports, with a focus on structural dynamics of social justice activism and amplifying athlete voices for policy reform. She also emphasizes rhetorical education rooted in ancient principles adapted to modern needs.
Alt mentors first-generation students and communication majors, guiding them through university life and career development. Her work has been published in Review of Communication, Social Media + Society, Journal of Public Interest Communication, Engaging Sports, and the edited volume Case Studies in Sport Communication: You Make The Call.
In her role as Director of the Speech Preparation Lab, she develops training materials for peer tutors and trains them to support students across disciplines in improving speaking skills for various contexts.
