Rebecca A Sharpless is a Professor of Law at the University of Miami School of Law and Director of the Immigration Clinic. Her work focuses on representing indigent noncitizens in removal proceedings and litigation, including landmark cases such as defending Somali individuals abused during deportations and challenging post-earthquake deportations to Haiti. She has been recognized with AILA's 2018 Elmer Fried Excellence in Teaching Award for her impactful instruction.
Her scholarly interests intersect immigration law with criminal justice and feminist theory. She previously served as president of the AILA South Florida Chapter and as a supervising attorney at Americans for Immigrant Justice (1996–2007), leading litigation in federal courts and immigration tribunals. Sharpless also contributes to legal education through CLE seminars and advocacy on immigration policy.
