معرفی
Dr. Rebeca Kawahara Sakuma is an Honorary Research Fellow at Macquarie University's Department of Molecular Sciences within the School of Natural Sciences. She holds a Cancer Institute NSW Early Career Fellowship (2019-2022) and focuses on understanding protein N-glycosylation's role in colorectal cancer's tumor microenvironment and immune processes. Her research integrates glycoimmunology, molecular cancer biology, and glycobiology.
Education: PhD in Functional and Molecular Biology (University of Campinas, Brazil, 2015), followed by postdoctoral research at the University of São Paulo (2015-2017) and Macquarie University (2017-2018).
Research Interests: Glycosylation in cancer progression, tumor-immune interactions, and biomarker discovery. Key projects include:
- "Colorectal Cancer Glycobiology: Unexpected Players in Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition and Inflammation" (2019-2022)
- "Deciphering the 'Sugar-Code' of Colorectal Cancer" (2019-2021)
Research Trends: Recent work emphasizes enzyme-driven glycosylation changes (e.g., HEXB, N-acetyl-β-D-hexosaminidase) in cancer progression and patient stratification. Techniques include glycoproteomics and proteomics to profile tumor microenvironments.
Awards: Cancer Institute NSW Early Career Fellowship (2019-2022).
Grants & Projects: Led/co-investigator on two projects focusing on glycobiology and colorectal cancer mechanisms, funded by Macquarie University and external bodies.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Glycoimmunology group led by Dr. Morten Thaysen-Andersen, collaborating on glycoproteomic profiling and cancer biomarker research.
