Rea Tajiri is an Associate Professor in the Film Media Arts Department at Temple University, specializing in documentary production. She holds BFA and MFA degrees in post-studio art from the California Institute of the Arts. Her interdisciplinary work spans experimental films, installations, and video art, focusing on forgotten histories, multi-generational memory, and the Japanese American experience. Tajiri has exhibited globally in museums, film festivals, and television platforms.
Her notable works include the award-winning History and Memory: For Akiko & Takashige (1991), Strawberry Fields (1997), LORDVILLE (2014), and Wisdom Gone Wild (2022). These films explore themes of displacement, cultural identity, and social justice, often blending poetic storytelling with political engagement.
- Recipient of prestigious awards including the IDA Distinguished Achievement Award and the Grand Prix at the Fukuoka Asian Film Festival.
- Cofounded The Workshop, an incubator for Asian American film directors in NYC.
