Dr. Raymond Tutu is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Sociology and Criminal Justice department at Delaware State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Pennsylvania State University (2011), an MPhil in Population Studies from the University of Ghana (2007), and a B.A. (Hon) in Population and Family Life from the University of Cape Coast (2000). His research focuses on population health, global migration patterns, human-environment interactions, urban informality, water access, and health ecologies.
Key research areas include environmental health literacy in Ghanaian communities, migration-driven social resilience, and water insecurity in low-income urban areas. He has conducted extensive studies on cholera prevention strategies, acculturation processes among migrants, and the intersection of climate change with human displacement.
Dr. Tutu has been recognized with the Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching (2013-2014) and multiple Certificates of Appreciation for contributions to Delaware State University’s Honors Program. He has also served on the Executive Board of the Africa Specialty Group within the American Association of Geographers since 2014.
His publications span journals such as Tropical Medicine and Health, Journal of Infection and Public Health, and African Geographical Review, addressing topics from water access paradoxes to migrant health outcomes. Current research emphasizes global health equity, environmental justice, and resilient societal frameworks in Africa.
