Raymond Playford

Professor Raymond Playford is a clinician scientist and Professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of West London (UWL). He holds roles as Chairman of the Herbal Medicines Advisory Committee of the MHRA, member of the Policy and Education Advisory Committee of the General Osteopathy Council, and visiting Consultant Gastroenterologist at St George’s NHS Trust. His academic background includes a medical degree from St. Bartholomew's Medical School, a PhD, and a DSc.

Professor Playford’s research focuses on molecular medicine, gastrointestinal health, and bioactive compounds such as bovine colostrum and chicken egg powder. His work spans clinical trials, therapeutic interventions for malnutrition, and gut repair mechanisms. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed papers and received the British Society of Gastroenterology Sir Francis Avery Jones Research Medal.

He has held senior academic roles, including Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor at Plymouth University and Vice Principal at Queen Mary, University of London. His industry experience includes executive and non-executive roles in UK and US companies. His teaching spans biomedical science, bioinformatics, and clinical science programs at UWL.

Key awards include the Sir Francis Avery Jones Medal for research excellence. His current projects address malnutrition enteropathy in children and the therapeutic potential of natural compounds.
