Professor Raymond Chan serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Matthew Flinders Professor of Cancer Care, Systems and Policy at Flinders University's Caring Futures Institute within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. With a clinical background in cancer nursing and survivorship, he currently holds an NHMRC Investigator Grant and has published over 270 peer-reviewed articles with 3 book chapters. His leadership extends to national and international cancer care organizations, including serving as Chair for the Survivorship Study Group of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) and Board Director for the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC).
Professor Chan's research program focuses on optimizing models of care and health services' responses to address the needs of people affected by cancer in the survivorship phase. His work encompasses management of distressing cancer- or treatment-related toxicities, enhancing integrated care models involving primary care providers, and improving outcomes for people receiving palliative/end-of-life care. With extensive experience as a GCP-trained clinical trialist, he has completed 12 Phase II/III RCTs over the past 5 years and has been a mentor to numerous nursing and allied health researchers.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on cancer survivorship care models, cognitive impairment in cancer patients, financial toxicity, and implementation of evidence-based care pathways. His work demonstrates consistent contributions across clinical trials, systematic reviews, and policy development with particular emphasis on translating research into practice through large implementation trials across multiple cancer centers in Australia.
