Raymond Bruce Iglay

Dr. Raymond Bruce Iglay is an Associate Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Mississippi State University, affiliated with the College of Forest Resources and the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Aquaculture. He serves as the WFA Graduate Program Coordinator and Faculty Liaison for the Wildlife Services National Training Academy. His education includes a PhD in Forest Resources (Mississippi State University), an MS in Wildlife and Fisheries Science, and a BS in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Delaware.

Research focuses on wildlife damage mitigation, biodiversity conservation in managed landscapes, habitat restoration, plant succession, and innovative technologies like drones for wildlife monitoring. He teaches courses on wildlife habitat management, vegetation identification, and human-wildlife conflict resolution. His lab emphasizes applied research addressing stakeholder concerns in dynamic ecosystems.

Publications span 2004–2024, covering drone-based wildlife surveys, wild pig behavior, invasive species control, and ecological impacts of land management. Awards include the 2024 MSU College of Forest Resources Teaching and Publication Awards and The Wildlife Society’s Early Career Achievement Award. He is a Fellow of The Wildlife Society and active in organizations like Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation.

Grants and lab activities involve collaborations on biodiversity monitoring, agricultural pest management, and technology integration in conservation. His Iglay Lab supports graduate students (e.g., Jacob Wessels, Simone Danisi) and hosts projects on drone thermal imaging, hair snare methods, and tidal marsh restoration. Current research explores drone noise impacts on wildlife surveys and vinegar-based herbicide alternatives for invasive plants.
