Ray Starr is the Theodora Stone Sutton Professor of Ancient Greek and Roman Studies and Professor of Classical Studies at Wellesley College. His research and teaching focus on Roman literature, culture, and law, with particular emphasis on the sociology of Roman literature, political communication, and Augustus' reign.
His expertise includes:
- Latin pedagogy at all levels
- Roman law and cultural studies
- Readers' experience with texts in antiquity
- Book Studies and textual circulation
Starr has been recognized for his service, receiving the Barlow Beach Award for Distinguished Service from the Classical Association of New England. He has contributed to studies on Virgil's Aeneid, late antique commentaries, and the economic structures of ancient Rome.
