Ray Matthews

Ray Matthews is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Director of Interventional Cardiology and Catheterization Laboratories at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He leads the structural heart program, pioneering minimally invasive treatments for complex cardiac conditions like TAVR and congenital defect closures. His roles include Director of CVI Outreach & Network Development, focusing on expanding access to advanced cardiac care.

With 35 years of experience, Dr. Matthews has performed over 1,000 TAVR procedures and trained over 80 interventional cardiologists globally. His research spans implantable sensors for heart failure detection and synthetic TAVR valve development, alongside innovating medical devices for safer cardiac interventions.

Key awards include the 2013 Golden Apple Award for Teaching and 1987 American Heart Association honors. His publications (15+ recent articles listed) address coronary interventions, device efficacy, and metabolic impacts of cardiovascular conditions.
