Ray I. Throckmorton (1886–1979) served as Department Head of Agronomy at Kansas State College (now Kansas State University) from 1925 to 1946. He held advanced degrees from Pennsylvania State College (B.S.) and Kansas State College (M.S.), with additional studies at Cornell University. His leadership included overseeing critical developments such as new Experiment Fields, county soil surveys, and the release of crop varieties like wheat, corn, oats, and sorghum during challenging periods of economic depression and WWII.

Research Interests included soil management, crop breeding, and agricultural extension. His presidency of the American Society of Agronomy (1934) highlighted his national influence. Additional contributions include roles in the K-State Endowment Association and leadership in agricultural policy.
