Dr. Raul E. Guzman leads the Cellular Neurophysiology research group at the Institute for Biological Information Processes (IBI-1), Research Center Jülich. His work focuses on understanding the physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms of ClC-3 and ClC-4 ion transporters, particularly their roles in neurodevelopmental disorders like epilepsy, intellectual disability, and mood disorders. The group employs advanced techniques such as electrophysiology, molecular biology, and confocal microscopy to explore these transporters' impact on neuronal health and disease.
Research projects include investigating ClC-3/ClC-4 dysfunction in X-linked intellectual disability, characterizing ClC-4 mutant mouse models, and studying neuronal excitability in hippocampal regions. Their findings aim to develop novel therapeutic strategies for CLCN3/4-associated neuropathologies.
Funding: CureCLCN4 pilot Grant program. Team includes members like Alberto Rafael Diaz Castillo and Marlon Mario Macias Mendoza. Research emphasizes ion homeostasis, vesicular mono-amine transport, and electrophysiological approaches.
