Ranjit Deshpande

Ranjit Deshpande, MD, MBA, FCCM, is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine and serves as Vice Chair of Finance & Strategy and Director of Transplant Anesthesiology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He specializes in transplant anesthesiology and critical care, with a focus on perioperative care for liver, kidney, and other organ transplants. Dr. Deshpande holds an MBA from Yale School of Management (2024), reflecting his expertise in healthcare leadership and strategic management.

Dr. Deshpande's educational background includes a medical degree from BJ Medical College (2005), anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami (2011), and a critical care fellowship at Johns Hopkins (2012). He established Yale’s Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) program and is a leader in advancing robotic-assisted kidney transplantation and disaster medicine initiatives.

His research interests span critical care, transplant anesthesia, and perioperative optimization, with a focus on enhancing patient outcomes through evidence-based practices. He has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on ventilator splitting for disaster relief, glucose management in critically ill patients, and ethical challenges in organ transplantation during pandemics.

Dr. Deshpande’s professional roles include serving as Treasurer of the Society for the Advancement of Transplant Anesthesia (SATA), Associate Editor for BJA Education, and leadership in organizations like SCCM and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. His clinical expertise includes managing complex cases involving brain-dead organ donors, optimizing perioperative care for elderly transplant recipients, and reducing opioid dependence in living donors through regional anesthesia techniques.
