Rania Maktabi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Welfare, Management and Organization, Østfold University College. Her research focuses on political relations in the Middle East, particularly the legal status of Arab women, citizenship, and the interplay between religion, law, and politics in Lebanon, Syria, Kuwait, Qatar, Morocco, and Egypt.
- Key research areas include citizenship studies, gender and law, legal reforms in authoritarian regimes, and post-Arab Spring dynamics.
- She has published extensively on female lawyers' mobilization, patriarchal nationality laws, and women's political participation, including the 2018 edited book Brennpunkt Midtøsten: Byene som prisme.
