Randy L. Jensen, MD, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Oncological Sciences and Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah's School of Medicine. He leads the Jensen Lab and is a member of the Brain Tumor Research Team at Huntsman Cancer Institute. His clinical expertise spans neurosurgery, brain tumors, skull base surgery, neurotrauma, and neurocritical care.
- Education: B.A. and B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Utah, M.D. from University of Utah School of Medicine, Ph.D. in Medical Humanities and Professional Education (MHPE) from the University of Illinois, Residency at Loyola University, Fellowship at University of Utah Healthcare.
Dr. Jensen's research focuses on brain tumor angiogenesis, hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) mechanisms, meningioma biology, and novel imaging/therapeutic modalities. His work includes intraoperative MRI applications, tumor microenvironment analysis, and cancer stem cell studies under hypoxic conditions.
Recent publications highlight meningioma radiotherapy optimization, glioblastoma treatment strategies, and clinical trial outcomes. Key trends include stereotactic radiosurgery efficacy, epigenetic inhibitor screening, and molecular biomarker identification for tumor prognosis.
The Jensen Lab develops animal models for imaging/testing therapies, investigates HIF-1 inhibition via siRNA, and explores calcium channel antagonists for meningioma treatment. Collaborations span the Neuro-Oncology Multi-Disciplinary Group and Brain Tumor Research Team at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
