Randy L Buckner is the Sosland Family Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Harvard University, affiliated with the Center for Brain Science. He serves as Director of the Psychiatric Neuroimaging Research Division at Massachusetts General Hospital and is on the faculty of the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. His research focuses on understanding how the brain supports high-level cognition and the mechanisms of dysfunction in psychiatric and neurological illnesses.

Trained in cognitive psychology and systems neuroscience, Randy’s work integrates neuroimaging techniques to explore neural circuits, individual differences in brain organization, and the evolution of brain function. His lab investigates topics such as:

- Functional network modulation in depression
- Evolutionary changes in brain circuits between humans and non-human primates
- Identification of MRI biomarkers for early-stage Alzheimer’s disease
- Personalized treatment approaches for neurological and psychiatric disorders
He mentors a diverse group of trainees, including PhD students, MD/PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants, across multiple institutions. Collaborations extend to the Eldaief Lab at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
