Randolph Wimmer is a Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on teacher education, postsecondary education policy, and culturally responsive educational practices. He holds a PhD in Postsecondary Education from the University of Alberta, a Master’s in Social and Cultural Contexts of Education, and a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education. Prior to his academic career, he worked in secondary schools and administrative roles in teacher education programs.
His research explores the experiences of internationally educated teachers (IETs), First Nations beginning teachers, and postsecondary education policy. He employs mixed methods, with a particular focus on narrative and life history methodologies. Key projects include SSHRC-funded studies on teacher education reflections and undergraduate persistence in science.
Teaching responsibilities include EDPS 410 (Ethics and Law in Teaching) and EDPS 571 (Organization of Postsecondary Education). He has contributed to bridging programs for IETs and evaluations of Aboriginal teacher education initiatives. His work emphasizes equity, policy implications, and culturally inclusive education systems.
