Randall S. Kroszner is the Norman R. Bobins Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he has taught since 1990. He previously served as Deputy Dean for Executive Programs at Booth and as a Governor of the Federal Reserve System (2006–2009), leading initiatives on banking regulation, consumer protection, and financial crisis response. He represented the Fed on global bodies like the Financial Stability Board and the Basel Committee, and chaired the OECD working party on international payments equilibrium. Dr. Kroszner was also a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers (2001–2003), advising on corporate governance, tax reform, and international trade.
- Education: Sc.B. in Applied Mathematics-Economics from Brown University (1984), M.A. (1987) and Ph.D. (1990) in Economics from Harvard University.
His research focuses on financial regulation, monetary economics, corporate governance, and political economy, with a historical lens on the Great Depression. His publications span banking crises, deregulation, and conflicts of interest in financial firms.
Recent publications highlight his work on monetary policy, banking regulation, and corporate governance, reflecting his expertise in aligning financial systems with macroeconomic stability and legal frameworks. He co-authored the Brattle Prize-winning study on managerial stock ownership and a notable book on U.S. financial market reform.
