Dr. Ramzi Emanuel Dudum is a cardiologist, population health expert, and Research Fellow at Stanford University's Cardiovascular Institute while simultaneously pursuing a Masters in Health Policy at Stanford University. His dual appointment reflects his unique integration of clinical cardiology with health policy research, focusing on developing novel risk prediction methods and implementation strategies to reduce cardiovascular disease burden.
Dr. Dudum completed his Doctor of Medicine at George Washington University (2017) and a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University concentrating in epidemiology and biostatistics (2016). He completed internal medicine residency training as part of the prestigious Osler Medical Service at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he worked under the mentorship of leading cardiologists Drs. Roger Blumenthal and Michael Blaha. He subsequently joined Stanford for his cardiovascular medicine fellowship, working with Drs. David Maron, Fatima Rodriguez, and Steve Asch.
His research program spans four interconnected domains: coronary artery calcium assessment for cardiovascular risk stratification, health disparities research focusing on racial/ethnic differences in cardiovascular care, artificial intelligence applications in cardiovascular prevention, and implementation science to translate research findings into clinical practice. His work consistently addresses how to improve cardiovascular outcomes while reducing disparities in care.
Analysis of Dr. Dudum's recent publications (2023-2024) reveals a strong emphasis on using advanced methodologies (including AI and deep learning) to address cardiovascular health disparities. His research frequently examines how social determinants of health and racial/ethnic identity influence cardiovascular risk assessment, diagnostic testing patterns, and treatment decisions - particularly regarding coronary artery calcium scoring and statin therapy.
- Chief Fellow, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Stanford University (2023)
- Profiles of Excellence Award, American College of Physicians, Department of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Hospital (2020)
- Norman and Mary Stewart Memorial Award, Department of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Hospital (2018)
- Allie S. Freed Award in Preventive Medicine, GWU School of Medicine and Health Sciences (2017)
- Medical Alumni Association Award, GWU School of Medicine and Health Sciences (2017)
As an active researcher, Dr. Dudum serves as co-investigator of a prospective randomized trial (NCT 05588895) testing how notification of incidental coronary artery calcium affects statin initiation. He collaborates with hospital leadership to implement digital health and AI tools, building infrastructure for prospective use of AI algorithms on radiology studies. His work bridges clinical cardiology, population health, and health policy to create systems that reduce cardiovascular disease through precision prevention approaches that address health equity.
