Ramiro Martinez is a Professor of Sociology and Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. He specializes in quantitative criminology with a focus on violence, race, ethnicity, and immigration studies. His research explores how violence varies across ecological settings and demographic groups, funded by agencies like NSF, NIH, and NIJ.
- PhD in Sociology, The Ohio State University (1992)
His work spans violent crime trends, racial/ethnic disparities in justice systems, and cross-border violence analysis, particularly along the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Caribbean borders. He collaborates with multi-city research teams and has served on NSF's Sociology Advisory Panel.
Ramiro has received numerous honors, including the American Society of Criminology DPCC's Lifetime Achievement Award (2011) and W.E.B. DuBois Fellowship from the National Institute of Justice. He co-directs the Violence and Justice Research Lab with Carlos Cuevas.
